Softball - 7-8 League
- Games will be 5 innings or 1 ˝ hours, unless:
- Immediate termination at first sight of lightning
- Stopping due to darkness(poor visibility). At the discretion of the umpire –for safety reasons.
- Coaches mutually agree to shorten the game.
- Each game batting lineup shall include all members of the team
- One consecutive order throughout the game.
- Players arriving late will be added to the bottom of the lineup.
- There may be a MAXIMUM of ten players on the field.
- a minimum of eight players are required to play. If one team is short, they may
take players form the opposing team to fill out the roster, upon agreement of both
coaches.
- Unlimited substitutions allowed during the game.
- everyone is batting – no changes to lineup.
- Each inning will consist of once through the entire lineup, OR 3 outs, whichever
comes first.
- Coaches will announce last batter.
- No extras bases on overthrows – if a ball is overthrown making a play at a base,
the runner(s) shall not advance.
- This is to encourage players to try and make throwing plays without the risk
of advancing runners.
- Some basics:
- ALL batters and runners MUST wear a helmet.
- There will be NO stealing of bases.
- There will be NO bunting.
- There will be NO throwing of the bat.
- There will be NO stealing of bases.
- 1st Infractions of these rules will result in a warning, 2nd will result in batter/runner
being called out.
- There will be NO infield fly rule.
- The ONLY ball allowed in play will be the 11” Softie ball.
- Players are eligible to play in this league if they have not reached their 9th
birthday on or before January 1st.
Any misconduct, unsportsmanlike behavior, abusive behavior demonstrated by players,
coaches, or parents towards player, coaches, and umpires will not be tolerated.
If a problem arises, the umpire shall make a decision as to what will happen at that
time – whether the game will continue, players/coaches/parents will be ejected, etc.
A panel of ANHAA board members(including at least 2 executive board members) will
meet to discuss any incidents in as timely a fashion as possible after the game,
to determine if anything else must be done to rectify the situation – suspensions/removal
from team, etc. See the distributed “Field Behavior Policy” for details.
Please remember, this is still an instructional league – we’re here to get the kids on the field and teach them the game. As they say, “it’s just a game”.
